ALPINESTARS TECH AIR 3 V2 CANVAS AIRBAG BLACK

The Tech-Air® 3 airbag system from Alpinestars is designed to be worn over a motorcycle jacket, but can also be worn under a jacket. It provides effective and practical protection for V-twin riders, touring riders, urban commuters and weekend warriors who want to ride safely. Alpinestars’ crash detection algorithm has been developed and refined with millions of kilometres of ride data and thousands of crashes, allowing the system to accurately assess when to deploy the airbag before a crash or other dangerous situation. When Tech-Air® 3 detects the start of a collision, it inflates the airbag within milliseconds, reducing up to 95% of the impact energy transmitted to the driver wherever the airbag protects, including the entire chest and back. In the event of a direct collision between the driver and another vehicle or barrier, Tech-Air® 3 is effective in a ‘first impact’, which means that the system inflates before the driver hits the vehicle or barrier that is the direct object of impact. The exterior is made of stretch nylon fabric and thanks to the waterproof ECU and electronics, the stylish and self-contained system can be worn under a motorcycle jacket, including the Alpinestars Tech-Air® Ready jacket, or any leather or textile jacket, as long as the jacket has enough room to accommodate an airbag.

The Tech-Air® 3 ECU protection ensures all-weather operation and is certified for operation between -20 °C and +40 °C. The ECU has been tested and CE certified in accordance with various electronic, radio and electrical safety regulations. The gas filling cartridge is CE certified in accordance with UNI EN 16263, which certifies compliance with the safety standard and confirms that the cartridges can be safely handled and maintained. When inflated, the Tech-Air® 3 Leather system provides full airbag protection for the chest and back and is certified as Category II Personal Protective Equipment under European Regulation (EU) 2016/425 in accordance with the relevant part of the airbag certification standard EN1624-4:2013 (Motorcyclists’ Protective Clothing against Mechanical Shock – 4. Part 4: Inflatable protection for motorcyclists – Requirements and test methods), which ensures the impact protection effectiveness for at least five seconds after activation. The impact protection performance shall be at level 2 for the whole chest and the whole back.

Tech-Air® 3 Canvas is a fully autonomous active airbag system that requires no external connections or sensors on the motorcycle to operate. The Tech-Air® 3 Canvas system includes 6 integrated sensors (3 accelerometers (1 tri-axial accelerometer) and 3 gyroscopes (1 tri-axial gyroscope)) that provide the best crash monitoring performance in a variety of dynamic driving conditions, even at standstill. The Tech-Air® 3 Canvas airbag system uses an accident detection algorithm that uses artificial intelligence to accurately monitor when the airbag deploys in the event of an accident, so that the airbag provides active protection in road scenarios and different driving conditions, even when stationary. The Tech-Air® 3 Canvas airbag system is automatically activated via a magnetic zipper. The system’s packable design allows it to be easily stowed in a backpack, top or side case when not in use. The design of the Tech-Air® Canvas system includes additional features including a built-in sunglasses pocket on the right side of the chest, a belt loop that allows for the attachment of gloves, elasticated side panels for comfort that provide volume to deploy airbags. The vest has 2 zipped hand pockets, 2 zipped chest pockets and an internal pocket for convenient storage. The construction of the Tech-Air® 3 Canvas Vest has openings for riders to personalise their vest with patches or embroidery if desired. An LED display, partially hidden in the left chest pocket, shows the airbag’s operational status. The pocket has a reflective interior for optimum LED visibility and also includes a haptic alarm that vibrates to confirm that the system is activated and alerts the wearer when the battery is low. A built-in back protection pocket on the back can accommodate additional passive back protection. The Tech-Air® 3 Canvas includes a compact second generation Alpinestars Pro electronic control unit (ECU), which is housed in the ECU pocket in the upper back of the Tech-Air® 3 Canvas. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE 5.0) connectivity with the Tech-Air® app allows riders to monitor system performance, battery status and provides a detailed map of motorcycle rides via the MyRide app. The system’s upgradeable software is accessible via the Tech-Air® app, where drivers can quickly check the version of the installed software and easily perform the latest software updates. Tech-Air® 3 uses an integrated certified lithium-ion battery, and a fully charged battery gives the system 40 hours of active driving. A discharged battery will fully recharge in approximately 4 hours; if the battery is charged for approximately 1 hour, it will provide approximately 8-10 hours of driving time. The gas inflator, which provides gas for inflating the airbags, is located in the inflator housing on the left side of the driver’s lower back. The inflator housing, the electronic wiring and the airbag shall be easily removable. The inflator gas cartridges can be replaced by selected Alpinestars dealers and Tech-Air® certified service centres.
