The all-new SM5 ECE 22.06 helmet has been developed to offer MX riders a helmet that is safe and specially designed for optimum protection and comfort. The lightweight SM5 helmet features a thermo-moulded shell with a special blend of polymers, reinforced with different thicknesses and designed to offer an optimal combination of impact protection and low weight. The inner lining consists of a 7-part expanded polystyrene (EPS) construction with EPS in five different densities to ensure the right density in the right area for improved shock absorption. <\/p>\n

The lightweight outer shell is made of technologically advanced, impact-resistant thermoplastic in three anatomical shell sizes and three individual EPS inner liner sizes with a combination of inner liner and cheek padding to provide 6 unique sizes and the best fit and protection.
\nA contoured, raised padded area effectively reduces the forces transmitted to the collarbone and a patented visor release system ensures that the visor is released with the appropriate, pre-determined force, regardless of the angle of impact.
\nThe lower shell volume of the medium, large, XL and 2XL models has been designed to be approximately 3% wider to make the helmet easier to put on and take off. The increase in helmet volume has also improved the impact handling capacity, which is now 44% lower than the normal speed threshold.
\nFor the new ECE 22 standard.06, the SM5 achieves a 44% better impact rating at normal speed compared to the current 33%, a 32% better linear impact rating at low speed and a 31% better linear impact rating at high speed, which dominates the standard.
\nThe interior and exterior surfaces are designed to reduce the effects of oblique impacts. To cope with and mitigate these rotational impact forces, Alpinestars has developed a proprietary technology to create a low friction surface on the inner surface of the EPS liner. In accordance with ECE 22.06, which now also includes a rotational oblique impact rating, SM5 achieves a rating of 70% under the new regulations.
